Are you familiar with the caveman regimen?
How does it work?
You wash your face once or twice a week with water. No soaps, no cleansers, no exfoliating. Hardcore caveman practitioners do not even let water touch their faces for a month or so.
What’s the logic behind this?
Your skin has something called acid mantle that develops when you hit puberty. It is a very fine film on the surface of the skin; a barrier to bacteria, viruses and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin. It has a PH of approximately 5.5 (slightly acidic).
Most people’s commercial cleansers, moisturizers and topicals are actually working against them instead of for them. The harsh chemicals in cleaners damage your skin and strip it of
By not washing face you are letting your skin heal itself and regulate its own sebum balance on its own.
I’m certain this isn’t going to work for everyone. Those who have been using harsh chemicals, topicals, and irritating cleansers will be the ones to notice more of an improvement.
You can still try it out for a given time period and record your progress. It’s important you don’t pop or pick your pimples, since it makes them go away faster and there is less likelihood you’ll be left with a scar (believe me, acne scars aren’t nice).
But don’t worry, if you need a little moisture, you can use natural oils every now and then!
